When the pandemic put my henna career on hold, I needed an innovative idea to continue adding beauty to the world.
The Italian pottery in my kitchen was the inspiration to expand my art to another freehand medium that I love - painting.
All my works are originals, meticulously painted by hand in my NY studio, every brushstroke intuitively influenced by my deep Sicilian roots.
Inspired by maiolica, the centuries-old art found throughout the Old World, I present to you here my Italian-style paintings.
Some are historically accurate while others are more whimsical.
Following similar techniques used by maiolica artists for centuries, a freehand sketch starts a design. The sketch, transferred to the canvas, is then meticulously painted by hand employing the same vibrant palette, color combinations and motifs.
Paintings are acrylic on canvas, wood, stone or artist's paper. The entire process for one work can take hours to days to complete.
